Walter Winkowski graduated from WNMU in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree and in 1966 with a master’s degree in business education.

Winkowski participated four years in a Mustang football jersey and four years in a Mustang baseball uniform. In 1962, he was selected to the All-Frontier Conference Honorable Mention team for his efforts on the football field. He tied for the longest touchdown pass in the nation that year – 95 yards. He also gained over 100 yards in the first half as a running back against Adams State during his senior year.

As a second baseman, catcher and left fielder in baseball, Winkowski batted .300 all four years he played, hitting .444 his junior year, ranking him 17th in the country that year.

In 1963, Winkowski was honored with the All-Sports Award.

He now resides in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania, with his wife LaVerne and two children, Brittany and Ryan.
