The 1992 volleyball team made history as the first and only team to compete in the NAIA National Volleyball Championships. They also became the first district and bi-district champions. The team finished the regular season with an impressive 21-6 record, despite only playing three home games, and posted a 25-9 record overall. Notable victories included two tournament championships: one at the Zia Classic at rival Eastern New Mexico’s NCAA Division II event and another at the Orange and Blue Classic at Houston Baptist. The Mustangs also claimed a big win against Division I UTEP.

The team dominated the District 8 Championships, defeating Midwestern State 15-0, 15-0, and 15-7 in round one, then taking down Tarleton State with a 15-5, 15-12, 15-3 victory. The Mustangs then triumphed over Incarnate Word for the third time that season to become Bi-District Champions. Their success continued at the National Tournament in San Diego, where they secured a victory over West Virginia Wesleyan.
