Kathi Hutchins Bryant began school at New Mexico State Teachers College in 1950, majoring in biology and physical education. A native of Afton, Oklahoma, she participated all four years in basketball, volleyball, softball, and tennis.

She was named first team in all four sports and was a four-year member of the Women’s Athletic Association, serving as secretary/treasurer her senior year.

An integral member of college life and activities, Bryant participated in Cardinal Key for three years, Aqua Parade, cheerleading her freshman year, Student Council secretary/treasurer, a member of Sigma Tau Delta, a member of Playmakers, Westernettes secretary for three years, Leadership Conference participant for three years, Westerner yearbook editor her junior year, and Westerner business manager her senior year.

Bryant was named the most popular girl on campus and selected for “Who’s Who” during her senior year.

In 1954-1955 when Dr. Arlene Kilpatrick worked on her doctorate at Indiana University, Bryant filled in for her.

Following graduation, she married Milton Bryant and taught in the Dallas, Texas public school system.
