Robert “Moose” White was born in Deming, New Mexico and attended public school in Silver City. White was eight-time letter winner at WNMU.

White lettered in football four years at WNMU. In 1952, his sophomore year, White was voted Most Valuable Player and selected to All-Conference. During that season, he established a national rushing record of 1,643 yards. Moose rushed for 182.5 yards per game. He also a national record in scoring with 120 points that season.

With this national record, White also made Little All-American in 1952. In 1953, he was co-captain of the football team as well as Most Valuable Player. In 1954, he was again All-Conference and Most Valuable Player.

White also lettered four years in track and field and held school records in the 100 yard dash, 200 yard dash, the low and high hurdles, and on a relay team. His 100 yard dash record held for 16 years.
