Marshall Thomas came to WNMU in the late 1960s and received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Master of Arts in Guidance Counseling. Thomas lettered in track and field from 1967-1970. He also played one season of football under the direction of Coach Hightower and two seasons of basketball with Coach Smith.

During his stint as a grinder, the tri-sport athlete led the nation in punt returns in 1967, averaging 33.6 yards per carry.

One of Thomas’ favorite extracurricular activities was the “Great Race”.

“The Great Race. School is school, but the extracurricular activities generated an experience that anyone who participated in it would never forget,” says Thomas.

Thomas, an educator for 32 years, is a guidance counselor and the athletic director at Saginaw High School in Saginaw, Michigan. He and his wife, Yvonne, have three children, Alexis, Natalie, and Celeste.
