Joe Palmer

A four-year letterman in both football and track, Joe Palmer, class of 1955, began his WNMU athletic career by scoring 16 touchdowns in his freshman season. 

He was co-captain of the football team for three years and a three-time selection to the all-conference team.  Joe was also a standout pole vaulter on the track team. 

Joe returned to WNMU in 1962, beginning a 27-year association with Western New Mexico as a coach and member of the Physical Education Department faculty.  He served as head track coach and an assistant in baseball, basketball, and football.  Joe retired in 1989 and lives in Silver City, New Mexico.
