Mustangs Fall to 6th in Midwestern Invitational

Wichita, TX - The Mustangs traveled to Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls, TX, coming in 6th in the Midwestern Invitational, after leading in the first round.

Texas A&M came on top shooting 4-over in the tournament. Individually, a three-way playoff came to play where West Texas A&M's Eemeli Jarvinen holed a 20-foot birdie claiming the individual championship.

WNMU finished in 6th place out of 12 teams. The Mustangs shot +34 (288-303-295), 7 strokes from capturing a top-five finish.

After a brilliant first round, making crucial birdies in the back 9, WNMU led after the first round. As the second round approached, the wind began to pick up and the scores showed, finishing 9th on the day. Staying mentally tough, WNMU cut down 8 strokes and captured a 6th place finish.

"The wind was an obstacle for the boys. After a team meeting and explaining what went wrong, we were able to fight back today" said Head Coach Kent Beatty.

Senior Harry O'Callaghan (Leeds, ENG/Priesthorpe HS) was consistent as usual shooting 71-74-74 and placing him tied in 13th. Joey Geary (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope HS) had a magnificent third round shooting a 69, after back-to-back 76's. Geary finished tied in 18th.

"Joey had an excellent third round which really helped us at a crucial time. Joey will continue to develop and be a big part of this team" said Beatty.

Sam Ruston (Birmingham, ENG/Chase Terrace Technology) (70-78-75) and Adam Niles (Kamloops, BC/Valley View Secondary ) (71-75-77) both tied in 23rd, shooting 223 in the tournament. Lucas Hechler (Playa Del Carmen, MEX/Greg Norman Academy) finished in 65th, shooting 80-82-83.

The Mustangs will be playing in the Ryan Palmer Invitation, hosted by West Texas A&M. The tournament will be played October 26th, in Amarillo, TX, at Tascosa Country Club.
