Rockwall, TX. – The Western New Mexico University men's golf team finished up the opening day of the 2026 Lone Star Conference Championship in Rockwall, Texas and ended in 12th of 12 teams. The Mustangs had an opening two rounds of 331-309 (+64) to begin the 54 hole event at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club.
Jacob Alcorta (Silver City/Silver HS) led the way for the Mustangs with a 36-hole total of (+8) to finish the day in tied 24th. Alcorta would have rounds of 79-73 with 5 birdies in the opening two rounds.
Jayden Schmitz (Oro Valley, AZ/Ironwood Ridge HS) was next for the Mustangs with an opening two rounds of 77-77 (+10) to be tied 36th. Schmitz would have 3 birdies on the opening day.
Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) opened the tournament with rounds of 85-77 (+18) to finish the day in T52. Rounding out the lineup for the Mustangs,
Elijah Salazar (Santa Fe, NM/Saint Michael's HS) would end the day with rounds of 90-82 (+28) and is in 57th.
The Mustangs will begin the final round of the LSC Championship, tomorrow, April 20th at 08:00AM at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club.
