Mustangs and Alcorta Lead After Two Rounds at PGA WORKS

West Palm Beach, FL. – The Western New Mexico University men's golf team finished up the second round of the 2026 DII PGA Works Collegiate Championship in West Palm Beach, Florida and ended in the lead by 5 strokes in the 6 team field. The Mustangs matched their opening round with another round of 299 (+15) on day two of the 54 hole event at The Park at West Palm Beach.

Jacob Alcorta (Silver City/Silver HS) led the way for the Mustangs again with the best round of the field at 71 (E). Alcorta continued to impress, adding another 2 birdies on the day in a solid round of golf that included 14 pars and only two dropped shots. Alcorta will begin the final round with a 6 stroke lead and sits at a 3-under par total through 36 holes of play. Jayden Schmitz (Oro Valley, AZ/Ironwood Ridge HS) was next for the Mustangs with a second round of 75 (+4), placing him in tied 4th. Schmitz would have 3 birdies on moving day, making it 7 birdies on the week and will look to continue to push in the final round.

Jonty Butcher (Barnsley, GB/Penistone Grammar School) made a significant move on day two with an improved round of 74 (+3) that included 3 birdies. Butcher sits at (+14) for the tournament and is in T14th in the field of 30. Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) finished round two with a 79 (+8) and is tied with Butcher in 14th. Rounding out the lineup for the Mustangs, Elijah Salazar (Santa Fe, NM/Saint Michael's HS) would end the day with a round of 89 (+18) and is in 30th.

The Mustangs will look to close out the 2026 season on a high as they return for the final round of the PGA Works Collegiate, tomorrow, May 6th at 08:00AM at The Park at West Palm Beach.
