West Palm Beach, FL. – The Western New Mexico University men's golf team finished up the final round of the 2026 DII PGA Works Collegiate Championship in West Palm Beach, Florida and won by a total of 14 shots! The Mustangs posted their best round of the week with a final round of 292 (+8) for a total of 38-over par at The Park at West Palm Beach.
Jacob Alcorta (Silver City/Silver HS) made it a double for the Mustangs by winning the individual event by 4 strokes! It was a wire-to-wire victory for Alcorta who led through every round and posted a 74 (+3) in round 3 to cap off an excellent week. Alcorta would close out strong with a 1-under par back nine to finish at even par for the week and cap off the 2026 season in style. Jayden Schmitz (Oro Valley, AZ/Ironwood Ridge HS) was next for the Mustangs with a steady final round of 74 (+3), to finish the week in 4th individually at +8. Schmitz would have another 3 birdies in the final round, making it 10 birdies on the week to cap off the best finish of his collegiate career.
Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) saved his best round for last with a team-best 71 (E) on the final round. Kaesebier played a steady round of golf with 2 birdies and only 2 dropped shots to move four spots up the leaderboard and finish tied 10th. Jonty Butcher (Barnsley, GB/Penistone Grammar School) would also have his best round of the week with a 73 (+2) in the final round. Butcher added 4 birdies in the final round to move up a spot and finish the week in tied 13th. Rounding out the lineup for the Mustangs, Elijah Salazar (Santa Fe, NM/Saint Michael's HS) would end the day with a final round of 82 (+11) and finish the week in 29th.
The Mustangs capped off the 2026 season in impressive fashion with a team and individual victory and will now shift their focus to the offseason as they continue preparing to compete at a high level heading into the fall 2026 campaign.
