ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Western New Mexico Track and Field continued its 2025 season with strong performances at the Don Kirby Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico.
Field Events
Women's Field Events
Trinity Rios (Silver City, NM/Cobre High School) led the way for the Mustangs in the Javelin, placing third with a throw of 26.61 meters. Naomi Kimble (Animas, NM/Animas HS) competed in the High Jump, finishing second overall with a height of 1.60 meters. Daphne Clark (/) competed in two events, placing seventh in the Discus with a throw of 30.23 meters and fourth in the Shot Put with a mark of 10.39 meters.
Men's Field Events
On the men's side, George Peru (Silver City, NM/Cobre HS) competed in the Javelin, placing third overall with a throw of 46.34 meters.
Running Events
Women's Running Events
Nayeli Cobos (Dexter, NM/Dexter HS) ran the 400-meter dash, placing seventh with a time of 1:01.41. In the 800-meter run, Jeannette Rivera (El Paso, TX/Young Women's Leadership Academy) placed sixth with a time of 2:24.77, followed closely by Isabella Medina (El Paso, TX/Americas High School) in seventh at 2:30.42. Veronika Garcia (Tucson, AZ/Cienega High School) competed in the 400-meter hurdles and placed fourth with a time of 1:13.29.
Cobos also competed in the 200-meter dash, placing 18th with a time of 24.45 seconds. In the 1500-meter run, Aubrey Lozoya (Albuquerque, NM/Cottonwood Classic Preparatory) led the Mustangs, placing fourth with a time of 4:53.63. McKenna Sahd (Angel Fire, NM/Cimarron High School) followed in seventh place with a time of 5:12.31, Rayen Martinez () placed eighth at 5:33.41, and Vanessa Dominguez (Pecos, NM/Pecos High School) was ninth with a time of 5:38.70.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team captured first place with a time of 4:16.96.
Men's Running Events
Yoab Jaramillo (Farmington, NM/Piedra Vista High School) competed in the 400-meter dash, placing 16th with a time of 57.28. In the 800-meter run, Tristan Pierce (Raton, NM/Maxwell High School) placed fourth at 1:55.07, Wyatt MacKay (Phoenix, AZ/North Canyon High School) placed fifth at 1:55.75, Rene Arambula (San Elizario, TX/San Elizario HS) finished 11th at 2:03.83, and Esau Au (Deming, NM/Deming HS) placed 16th with a time of 2:11.78.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Malik Barrens (Pecos, NM/Pecos HS) placed third with a time of 58.45. In the 1500-meter run, Jarred Baca (Las Vegas/West Las Vegas High School) placed seventh at 4:09.58, Samuel Ketcham (Goodyear, AZ/Canyon View High School) finished 12th at 4:19.53, Cameron Shorty (Albuqurque, NM/Atrisco Heritage Academy High School) placed 13th at 4:20.89, Joshua Lara (Albuquerque, NM/Atrisco Heritage Academy High School) was 15th at 4:23.23, and Aaron Perez (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) finished 16th with a time of 4:25.40.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team finished strong, winning first place with a time of 3:31.13.
 The Mustangs will now head to the Lone Star Conference meet from May 1
st to May 3
rd.. The meet will be hosted by Eastern New Mexico in Portales, New Mexico.
