CANYON, TEXAS - The Western New Mexico University men's and women's track & field teams continued competition at the LSC Track and Field Championships on day two in Canyon.
In the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, Ameen Ibrahim (El Paso, TX/Pebble Hills HS) earned a sixth-place finish with a time of 9:56.65, while Morgan Haan (Albuquerque, NM/Edorado HS) followed closely behind in seventh at 9:58.47.
The Mustangs also posted strong performances in the discus events. On the men's side, Derek Schuller (Bayard, NM/Cobre High School) recorded a personal best throw of 41.11 meters, while Lukas Evans (Las Cruces, NM/Las Cruces HIgh School) added a mark of 33.98 meters. For the women, Alexandria Gonzalez turned in a personal best performance with a throw of 34.07 meters.
The Mustangs will wrap up competition tomorrow on the final day of the conference championships. The men's and women's teams will compete in the javelin and shot put events, while the track events will feature Jeanette Rivera in the 1500-meter final after qualifying on Thursday, along with the men's and women's 5000-meter races.
