LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Western New Mexico University Mustangs Men's Golf Team kicked off the NCAA South Central/West Regional at University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. hosted by Western New Mexico themselves. After one round of play the Mustangs are in first place thanks to the brilliant play of
Joey Geary (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope HS) and
Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keynes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS) at (-7), 277.
Geary currently sits as the tournament's overall leader with a bogey free round of 65, (-7). This round included six birdies. Arkanath is in a three-way tie for fourth place at (-3), 68. Arkanath stroked in two birdies and an eagle.
Tomas Ribeiro (Porto Seguro, BR/Evolução Centro HS) is the next Mustang under par at (-1), 70 earning him T-12th. Ribeiro sunk four birdies. T-45th is
Adam Niles (Kamloops, BC/Valley View Secondary HS) at (+3), 74. Niles recorded one birdie.
Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) rounds things out T-62nd at (+4), 75. Kaesebier had two birdies.Â
WNMU holds a four stroke lead (-7) over Oklahoma Christian (-3). Third place is West Texas A&M at E.
Sangha Park (UTPB) and Chris Wardrup (CSU San Bernardino) are tied for second at (-5), only trailing Geary (-7).
