Woodson's Double-Double Not Enough Against Tarleton State

Silver City, N.M—In the final weekend of the regular season, the Mustang men looked to get back in the winner's column and close out the season on a high note.

At the 18-minute mark, Tarleton struck first from three-point range. The Texans would get up by 9 before Leston Gordon (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago/Tunapuna Government Secondary) got a jumper to fall, putting his team on the board. Eddie Giron (Monterrey, Mexico/Harmony Science Academy) was second to score, drawing the foul beyond the arc.

It wouldn't be until the eight-minute mark that Western would score again on an and-one from Jon-Reese Woodson (Corpus Christi, TX/Carroll). Trailing by 14, free throws by Jordan Enriquez (El Paso, TX/Bel Air) pushed Western to the 10 point mark with seven minutes to go.

WNMU managed to score another ten, to trail 34-20 at the half.

Despite being down, the Mustangs fought to stay in the game. Jon-Reese Woodson (Corpus Christi, TX/Carroll) knocked down back-to-back buckets to keep his team within reach.

Davis Wade (Jackson, MS/Will C Wood) knocked down a couple of threes, for the team's second and third of the half. Jordan Enriquez (El Paso, TX/Bel Air) added two of his own as the team hit 5-8 from deep, at 62.5 percent.

Tarleton made 15 field goals to the Mustangs five. Despite a closer second half, Western could not recover falling 76-54. Jon-Reese Woodson (Corpus Christi, TX/Carroll) led with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The Men will have another chance Saturday against Texas A&M- Commerce at 4 p.m. The game will also honor six seniors: Davis Wade (Jackson, MS/Will C Wood), JR Woodson, Willie McCray (Clovis, NM/Clovis/Westwind Prep Academy), Leston Gordon (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago/Tunapuna Government Secondary), O'Shayne Reid (Jamaica, NY/John Bowne) and Jordan Enriquez (El Paso, TX/Bel Air)
