Tony Avalos (Las Cruces, NM/Onate) came up big with a steal and the layup to tie the game at 22.

Despite going 3-5 from the perimeter, the Aggies converted 12 points off of Mustang turnovers.
Knocking down his second three-pointer, CJ Vanbeekum (Phoenix, AZ/Paradise) tied the game at 32, followed by a steal and the fast break layup to put Western ahead 34-32 at the half.

With under a minute left, the Mustangs went up 77-72 on free throws by Willie McCray (Clovis, NM/Clovis/Westwind Prep Academy). Jon-Reese Woodson (Corpus Christi, TX/Carroll) would draw another foul bringing him to the line. Draining one, the Mustangs lead 80-77 with seconds remaining. The Aggies rebounded three times in one last attempt to score but time ran out as Western grabbed the win.
