Biography
WNMU (2016-17): Vanbeekum made an immediate impact in his first season with WNMU as a true freshman averaging 6.0 points and 2.4 rebounds, while making 36 percent from the field with 48 made field goals and 22 three-pointers. He also had five blocks and was tied for second on the team with 25 steals and dished out 26 assists. Vanbeekum scored a career-high 18 points against Texas A&M-Kingsville and he just missed a double-double with eight boards. He reached double-figures in scoring six times and had three steals versus Angelo State. He drilled four three-pointers against the Javelinas.
High School: Vanbeekum, from Phoenix, Ariz., is a 6-foot-5, 180 pound guard/forward who had a solid career at Paradise Valley High School. This past season he averaged 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists and landed on several awards lists. Vanbeekum was a First Team PVUSD All-District and Second Team All-State selection. He ranks 13th on the all-time scoring list at Paradise Valley.
Why he chose WNMU: "I really wanted a challenge and they believed in my game. My goal is to turn the basketball program around. I want to be a part of the team that changes the culture."
