San Angelo, TX-- In the penultimate road game of the season, the Western New Mexico Mustangs went on the road hoping to upset Lone Star Conference opponent Angelo St. University.
The game was tight for much of the first half with the Mustangs trailing by single digits until the midway point when an 8-0 run gave them the lead over the Rams, 23-22. The Mustangs would hold that lead briefly, but ASU would finish the half with a 19-9 run to take an 11 point lead into the break, 41-32.
The second half was a different story as the Rams carried their momentum out of the locker room and quickly extended their lead. ASU would go 8-15 from beyond the arc in the second half, and in the end it was too much for the Mustangs to overcome as they fell by a final score of 99-71.
Jon-Reese Woodson (Corpus Christi, TX/Carroll) led the Mustangs with 18 points, and
Tony Avalos (Las Cruces, NM/Onate) added 15.
Western is back on the road Saturday when they take on Texas A&M-Kingsville (TX) for their final road trip of the season.
