Former Mustang Greg Pool Named Canadian PGA Professional of the Year

Vancouver, BC -- Former WNMU Men's Golfer Greg Pool has been named the 2019 National Canadian PGA Class A Professional of the Year. After graduation from Western, Pool headed back to his native British Columbia and has worked at two prestigious golf clubs and has been a top Junior Golf leader in both of his stints in the work force. The personable 31-year-old was named British Columbia's Professional of the Year in 2015 and he remains a talented player as he is one of the top performing club professionals in British Columbia.

Pool attended WNMU from 2004-2008 and was a stalwart player for the Mustangs as well as a scholar in the class room. He occupying the No. 1 position on the team for a majority of his time in Silver City. During his tenure at Western, the Mustangs won the Heartland Conference Championship as well as their first RMAC Championship. The team qualified for the NCAA Championship after a win at the Central Regional in Denver in 2008. Pool won two individual titles as well as being named to the all region team three times and the All-American team in 2008. He was a four-time All-American Scholar before graduating with honors with a degree in Accounting.

"I couldn't be more proud of any player we've had than I am in Greg," said WNMU Head Coach Kent Beatty. "He was an extremely hard worker both on the course and in the classroom. That obviously has continued into his professional life. This young man brought it to 'em as a player, a student, and now as a PGA member. What an ambassador for Mustang golf, His job will be complete when we get a little Kent or Kentricia hitting some putts for WNMU, said Beatty.

Pool will accept the Canadian PGA's Stan Leonard Award honoring his accomplishment on January 24 at the PGA World Merchandise Show in Orlando.
