SILVER CITY, NM - Western New Mexico University student-athletes continued to make their mark in the classroom during the 2025-26 academic year, highlighted by outstanding performances from the Mustang golf programs as the Lone Star Conference announced its Academic Excellence Award and Academic Sport Champions on Monday.

WNMU women's golf recorded the highest single-sport GPA among all LSC women's programs, posting an impressive 3.901 team GPA for the 2025-26 academic year. The Mustangs also earned the top GPA amongst all men's programs, with WNMU men's golf finishing the year with a 3.832 team GPA.

The academic success also earned WNMU men's golf its third consecutive LSC Academic Sport Champion honor, continuing a strong tradition of excellence in the classroom for the program.

The Mustangs were among eight LSC sports in which every competing team posted a 3.00 or better GPA during the 2025-26 academic year. Men's golf was one of those sports, further highlighting the conference-wide academic strength of WNMU's program.

The LSC Academic Excellence Awards recognize the athletic departments with the highest collective men's and women's team GPAs, while Academic Sport Champions are awarded to the institution with the highest team GPA in each conference-sponsored sport.

With both WNMU golf programs leading their respective conference sports in GPA, the Mustangs once again demonstrated that excellence extends beyond competition and into the classroom.
