SILVER CITY, N.M. – The battle for the Warrior's Helmet will resume this Saturday when the Western New Mexico University football team hosts New Mexico Highlands at noon at Ben Altamirano Field.
The Mustangs hold a 1-1 record on the season and are 1-0 at home after the 56-point opening week victory against Arizona Christian. The University of San Diego claimed a 45-21 win last week in San Diego.

Dominic Barry (Moreno Valley, CA/Vista Del Lago) leads the way with 15 tackles and also has a forced fumble and fumble recovery. Junior

Juwan Sumpter (Fallbrook, CA/Fallbrook HS) are in double-digits in terms of tackles with Tyler tallying 14 and Sumpter with 11. Senior
Johnny Delcoure (Fallbrook, CA/Fallbrook) leads in tackles for loss with three and is tied with junior
Alfonso Wilson (San Diego, CA/Morse) for the sacks lead with two. Sumpter has the only interception so far and also has three pass breakups and four passes defended.
Nationally, WNMU ranks high in a couple of categories including eighth in fumble recoveries (4), first in the RMAC, eighth in passing offense (374.5), second in the RMAC, 15th in total offense (531), second in the RMAC and 28th in turnovers gained (5), second in the RMAC.
Individually, Glasmann is second in passing touchdowns, seventh in both passing yards and per game, fifth in points responsible for (48), sixth in points responsible for per game (24). Young II is tied for the national lead in touchdowns and is 14th in receiving yards, Ayers is 22nd. Rodgers is 13th in rushing yards, 16th in rushing yards per game (134.5) and 11th in all-purpose yards per game (203). On defense, Barry, sophomore

NMHU is 0-2 on the season having lost to Eastern New Mexico (40-10) and Northern Arizona (41-5) both games on the road.
Keith Moore has been the main quarterback throwing for 276 yards and a touchdown. Terry-Springs has caught nine passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Vincent Venegas has rushed 32 times for 158 yards. On defense, Shelton Miles has 22 tackles, 14 solo to lead the way.
Last year's game was a shootout in Las Vegas with the Cowboys taking the 59-38 victory. The year before, WNMU won going away taking the 43-14 victory to end the season.
