High School: Played both running back and defensive back, was named to the First-Team All-District as a RB during seniors season. He was also named to the First-Team All-Academic Metro, First-Team All-Metro honorable mention RB and he was also a versatile athlete, staring in basketball and track.

WNMU (2013): Saw action in seven games, hauling in seven passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. Also collected eight rushes for 29 yards.
 
WNMU (2014): Ayers ended up finishing sixth on the team in receiving tallying 26 receptions for 315 yards and three touchdowns with a long reception of 49 yards. On special teams he returned six kickoffs for 107 yards, with a long return of 28 yards.

WNMU (2015): Ayers brought in the most awards of all of the Mustangs during the 2015 season. He was named to the Don Hansen All-Super Region Four Team, Associated Press Little All-American Second-Team, D2CCA Second-Team All-American, D2CCA First-Team All-Region Super Region 4 and First-Team All-RMAC accolades. Ayers was amongst the best receivers in the nation this year after breaking the school record since moving to Division II in 1992-93 in receiving yards with 1,356 on 91 catches and five touchdowns. He broke Ronnell Pompey's receiving yards mark. He was second in the nation and led the RMAC in receiving yards, was third and led the RMAC in receiving yards per game (99), fifth and led the RMAC in receptions per game (8.3), 10th in the RMAC in receiving touchdowns and 77th and eighth in the RMAC in all-purpose yards per game (123.91). He had seven games this season with at least 100 receiving yards, with one game collecting a career-high 250 receiving yards against Colorado Mines on 13 catches. He also caught a pair of long touchdown passes with one going for 86 yards against CSU-Pueblo and another for 75 yards against Colorado Mines.
