For Vladimir Gnilozubov, his journey from international student-athlete to successful financial professional is rooted in the discipline, resilience, and competitive spirit he developed as a member of the Western New Mexico University men's tennis program.
Originally from Astana, Kazakhstan, Gnilozubov arrived at WNMU and quickly made an impact on the court. As a freshman, he led the Mustangs in singles wins with a 14-7 record, including an impressive 12-3 mark at the No. 5 position. He finished the season on an eight-match winning streak and earned All-RMAC honorable mention in singles along with First-Team honors in doubles.Â
His early success helped establish him as a key contributor to a program that consistently competed at a high level. During his time at WNMU, the Mustangs were a dominant force in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, capturing conference championships and building a culture of sustained excellence.Â
Gnilozubov continued to develop throughout his collegiate career, contributing in both singles and doubles competition. As a junior, he delivered standout performances, including a perfect 6-0 week in doubles against top competition and strong results in singles play. His versatility and consistency made him a reliable presence in the lineup, while his work ethic and competitive mindset reflected the values of the Mustang program.
Beyond dual matches, Gnilozubov also found success in tournament play. He captured a doubles title at the New Mexico State Invitational and added a consolation singles title, further showcasing his ability to compete and succeed in multiple formats.Â
Following his graduation from WNMU, Gnilozubov transitioned his competitive drive into the financial services industry. He is now a financial advisor with Edward Jones in Silver City, where he works with individuals, families, and business owners to develop long-term financial strategies. His areas of focus include retirement planning, wealth strategies, and estate planning, helping clients navigate complex financial decisions with confidence.Â
Gnilozubov has continued to build an impressive professional profile, earning multiple certifications including Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Financial Consultant, Certified Exit Planning Advisor, and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor. His expertise and commitment to his clients have also been recognized at a high level, as he was named among the top next-generation wealth advisors in New Mexico by Forbes in 2025.Â
While his professional accomplishments are notable, Gnilozubov remains closely connected to the Silver City community. He is actively involved in local initiatives and continues to embrace an active lifestyle, maintaining his passion for sports through activities such as cycling and tennis.Â
Family also plays a central role in his life. Gnilozubov and his wife, Jazmin, are raising their three sons, Tyler, Jax, and Leo, and are frequently involved in community events together. Whether participating in local races or supporting youth activities, the family shares a strong commitment to staying active and engaged in the community.Â
Edward Jones, where Gnilozubov serves as a financial advisor, is also a valued partner of Western New Mexico University Athletics. The firm's client-focused approach aligns closely with the values of WNMU Athletics, emphasizing preparation, trust, and long-term success. Gnilozubov's role within the organization further strengthens that connection, as he represents both the Mustang legacy and a commitment to helping others plan confidently for their futures.
From his beginnings as a Mustang student-athlete to his current role as a respected financial advisor, Gnilozubov's story reflects the lasting impact of the WNMU experience. His journey highlights how dedication in athletics can translate into success beyond competition, serving as an example for current and future Mustangs striving to make their mark both on and off the court.
