Mustangs in 14th after Day One in Pueblo

Pueblo, CO. – The Western New Mexico University men's golf team finished up the opening day of the Sam Proal Invite in Pueblo, Colorado and ended in 14th of 18 teams. The Mustangs had an opening two rounds of 298-293 (+23) to begin the 54 hole event at Pueblo Country Club.

Jacob Alcorta (Silver City/Silver HS) and Jayden Schmitz (Oro Valley, AZ/Ironwood Ridge HS) both led the way for the Mustangs with a 36-hole total of (+4). Alcorta would have rounds of 71-75 with 6 total birdies and Schmitz would open with rounds of 74-72 also with 6 birdies, placing them in a tie for 30th. Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) was next for the Mustangs with opening rounds of 72 and 76 to finish at a (+6) total for the day, in a tie for 44th. Kaesebier had 8 birdies on the opening day.

Jack Wadsworth (Plain City, UT/Fremont HS) rebounded with a strong second round of 70 (-1) which included 3 birdies and an eagle to go along with his opening round 84 and end the day with a (+12) total and in T76th. Rounding out the lineup for the Mustangs, Elijah Salazar (Santa Fe, NM/Saint Michael's HS) finished the day with rounds of 81 and 77 to finish at (+16), ending the day in T91st.

The Mustangs will begin the final round of the Sam Proal Invite, tomorrow, March 23rd at 08:00AM at Pueblo Country Club.
