Alumni Spotlight: Dorian Carrasco - Athlete to Assistant AD

From the plains of Clint, Texas, to shaping future student-athletes in Silver City, Dorian Carrasco has always been about grit, growth, and commitment to Western New Mexico University.

After graduating from Clint High School, Carrasco joined Western New Mexico as a Biology major in 2016 and subsequently joined the Men's Cross-Country team, where he remained an athlete throughout his undergraduate studies. Competing in Cross Country for Western New Mexico, he has consistently posted strong times across various meets, including a 10K cross-country best of 33:39.7 and a 5000m track mark of 15:17.60 during his collegiate career. Over four seasons, he competed at the NCAA Division II level, developing into a consistent distance contributor.

After earning his degree in Biology, he moved on to complete his Master's in Higher Education, while transitioning from athlete to graduate assistant coach, serving as the assistant coach from 2020 – 2022. After finishing his Master's, Carrasco continued his stay at Western, but this time as a full-time staff member. He initially joined the Athletics Department as Assistant Athletic Director for Student Achievement. As of today, Carrasco serves as the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance at the Athletics Department of Western New Mexico, where he plays a vital role in helping the department navigate conferences, provide oversight, and interpret regulations while supporting student-athletes.

Carrasco resides in Silver City, New Mexico, remaining deeply connected to the community where he trained, competed, and advanced professionally. Outside of athletics administration, he maintains an active lifestyle and shares his home with his two dogs, Dash and Rosco — a reflection of his continued connection to the outdoor culture that shapes distance running in the Southwest.

Carrasco's ongoing journey reflects the full student-athlete pathway. From competitor, graduate assistant, and now administrator, his career reflects continuity, institutional knowledge, and a commitment to student-athlete development.
