Tulum, Mex. — The Western New Mexico University Men's Golf team began the first round of the DII Shootout today and are currently in a tie for 12th. They began the event in Tulum with an opening round 318 (+30).
The Mustangs were led by Jayden Schmitz (Oro Valley, AZ/Ironwood Ridge HS), who opened up the tournament with an impressive 74, which currently has him in a tie for 7th place individually. Oscar Feschuk (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/St. Michael's College School) and Tyler Jackson (Deming, NM/Deming HS) followed behind, both recording rounds of 81, placing them in a tie for 53rd.
Jonty Butcher (Barnsley, GB/Penistone Grammar School) and Jacob Alcorta (Silver City/Silver HS) rounded out the team's efforts with scores of 82 and 86, respectively, positioning them at T58 and T69 after the opening round.
The Mustangs will look to make a move up the leaderboard with round 2 beginning tomorrow, September 29 at 08:20AM MT.
