Montrose, CO. – The Western New Mexico University men's golf team finished strong at the San Juan Intercollegiate with a fourth place finish. The Mustangs finished with a team score of 271-292-278 (-11).
Jacob Alcorta (Silver City/Silver HS) led the way for the Mustangs all tournament and closed out the event with an incredible round of 66 (-5). Alcorta posted the best finish of his college career with a tie for fifth place and a total of 67-74-66 (-6).
Jonty Butcher (Barnsley, GB/Penistone Grammar School) followed closely behind with a final round 69 (-2) that included 6 birdies and an impressive start to his college career, finishing in a tie for 20th at 70-72-69 (-2).
Oscar Feschuk (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/St. Michael's College School) and
Tyler Jackson (Deming, NM/Deming HS) both finished up the event in T27 (E) and displayed impressive golf from start to finish. Feschuk finished with a total of 68-73-72 and Jackson followed up at 67-75-71.
Jayden Schmitz (Oro Valley, AZ/Ironwood Ridge HS) was next for the Mustangs finishing up in a tie for 36th with rounds of 69-73-75 for a (+4) total.
Rounding out the lineup for the Mustangs as an individual was
Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium), who finished in 62nd place at (+31).
Colorado Mesa won the event at (-24), with West Texas A&M finishing in second at (-19) and Cameron University rounding out the top three at (-10). The individual winner of the San Juan Intercollegiate was Luis Palomo of WTAMU at (-16).
Results
The Mustangs look to continue to build on a solid start to the fall season as they travel to Tulum, Mexico for the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya, September 28-30.
