Abilene, Texas – The Western New Mexico University Women's Tennis team turned in an impressive first day at the Cowboy Classic hosted by Hardin-Simmons University, highlighted by a gritty three-set win from
Josefina Bailetti (Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina) and multiple doubles victories.
Bailetti shined in singles play with a decisive 6-1, 6-3 win. She then paired with
Eva Guta (Bucharest, Romania) in doubles, where the duo clicked immediately, scoring wins of 8-5 and 8-3 across two matches. Guta also showcased her resilience in singles, rallying for a three-set victory 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 in a thriller that capped off her successful day.
With consistent energy and strong performances, the Mustangs demonstrated their talent as they closed out the day with two singles wins and a win in the doubles.
The Mustangs look to continue this strong play into the ITA Fall Regionals in Dallas, TX from October 2-4.
