DALLAS, TX— The Western New Mexico University women's tennis team wrapped up a competitive weekend at the Texas Wesleyan Invite Saturday in Dallas after two days of singles and doubles action.
Head coach Jesus Baltazar highlighted the team's effort throughout the tournament, emphasizing the competitiveness and energy the Mustangs brought to the court. He also described the tournament as a great first tournament for the team as they continue building throughout the fall season.
In singles, Josefina Bailetti (Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Nuestra Señora del Huerto) earned an 8-4 victory Saturday after opening the tournament Friday with a 5-7, 2-6 loss before coming up short, 5-8, in her next match.
Eva Guta (Bucharest, Romania/Liceul Teoretic C.A. Rosetti (Romania)) earned an 8-2 victory Friday before dropping her Saturday match 4-8. She opened the tournament with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-10 loss.
Lina Mueller () finished Saturday with an 8-2 victory after going 3-6, 3-6 in her opening match Friday before responding with an 8-4 win.
Nikoletta Pytel (Warsaw, Poland/Cosinus Lódz (Poland)) opened the tournament with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 victory Friday before retiring from her second match at 1-6, 0-1. She also retired from her singles match on Saturday.
In doubles, Guta and Bailetti advanced to the main draw after earning a 6-2 victory Friday. The pair continued Saturday with a 6-3 victory before dropping their next match 1-6.
Mueller and Pytel also advanced to the main draw by walkover Friday before dropping their Saturday match 2-6 and retiring from their second match.
The Mustangs closed out the two-day invitational with valuable competition and experience as they continue their fall season.
