PUEBLO, CO. — The Western New Mexico University women's tennis team began play at the Colorado College Invite Saturday, competing in singles and doubles action at Pueblo City Park Tennis.
In singles, Catherine Ndeko () Kimbiyila opened with a 4-6, 3-6 loss before battling in her second match, falling 7-5, 2-6, 6-10.
Josefina Bailetti (Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Nuestra Señora del Huerto) dropped her opening singles match 1-6, 2-6 before retiring from her second match at 0-3. Lina Mueller () fell 1-6, 2-6 in her opening match before advancing by walkover in her second match.
Eva Guta (Bucharest, Romania/Liceul Teoretic C.A. Rosetti (Romania)) dropped her opening singles match 2-6, 4-6 before falling 3-6, 4-6 in her second match.
In doubles, Bailetti and her partner received a bye in their opening match before retiring from their second match at 0-3. Mueller and her partner dropped their match 2-6, while Guta and her partner retired at 0-3. Ndeko Kimbiyila and her partner also dropped their match 2-6.
Competition continues Sunday at the Colorado College Invite with additional singles and doubles rounds scheduled.
