BORREGO SPRINGS, CA - The Western New Mexico men's golf team wrapped up their final round at the Battle in the Desert, held at Rams Hill Country Club in Borrego Springs, CA, finishing in 8th place with a three-round total score of 874. The Mustangs were inconsistent over the three day tournament, as they posted round scores of 290, 298, and 286.
Jacob Alcorta (Silver City/Silver HS) Jr. led the charge for WNMU, finishing with a strong final round score of 71(-1). Alcorta played solidly, shooting 37 (+1) on the front nine and impressively finishing with 34 (-2) on the back nine.
Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) also posted a strong performance, finishing with a score of 71(-1) in round 3. He had a front nine of 37 (+1) and a back nine of 34 (-2), showing great focus throughout his round.
Tomas Ribeiro (Porto Seguro, BR/Evolução Centro HS) added his own standout round, finishing with a score of 71 (-1). After a front nine of 38 (+2), Ribeiro surged on the back nine, posting an impressive 33 (-3) to finish strong.
Oscar Feschuk (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/St. Michael's College School) rounded out the group with a score of 73 (+1), making an impressive comeback with a back nine score of 34 (-2) after starting with 39 (+3) on the front nine.
Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keynes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS) faced a few challenges during his round, finishing with a score of 76 (+4). He had a solid front nine of 36 (E) but struggled a bit on the back nine, scoring 40 (+4). Competing as an individual,
Jayden Schmitz (Oro Valley, AZ/Ironwood Ridge HS) finished with a score of 76 (+4), shooting 39 (+3) on the front nine and 37 (+1) on the back nine, showing flashes of strong play.
The Mustangs will be back in action at the Oak Tree Invitational, hosted by Oklahoma Christian University, on March 17-18, 2025, at Oak Tree Country Club in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
