BORREGO SPRINGS, CA - The Western New Mexico men's golf team slipped from 5th to 9th place after round 2 of the Battle in the Desert in Borrego Springs, CA. The Mustangs posted a team total of 588 (+12) with scores of 290 in the first round and 298 in the second.
Oscar Feschuk (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/St. Michael's College School) led the way for the Mustangs with an even-par 72, shooting 34 (-2) on the front nine and 38 (+2) on the back. Jacob Alcorta (Silver City/Silver HS) Jr. finished with a 74 (+2), posting a 36 (E) on the front nine and 38 (+2) on the back. Tomas Ribeiro (Porto Seguro, BR/Evolução Centro HS) shot 75 (+3), with a solid front nine of 36 (E) but struggled on the back nine with a 39 (+3). Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) recorded a 77 (+5), improving with a 37 (+1) on the back nine after a 40 (+4) on the front. Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keynes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS) also shot 77 (+5), with a 37 (+1) on the front and a 40 (+4) on the back. Competing as an individual, Jayden Schmitz (Oro Valley, AZ/Ironwood Ridge HS) finished with an 82 (+10), recording a 42 (+6) on the front nine and 40 (+4) on the back.
The Mustangs will look to finish the tournament strong in the final round on Wednesday February 26, 2025, with a tee time scheduled for approximately 9 a.m. MST.
