El Paso, Texas. - The Western New Mexico University Women's Tennis team started their 2025 Spring Season with a match-up against the University of Texas at El Paso. The Miners would get the best of the Mustangs, 6-1.
In doubles, the No. 1 spot of
Caini Wang (New Taipei City, Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) and
Gabriella Blumberg (Casper, WY/Kelly Walsh High School) were defeated by Zuzanna Szczepankska and Candice Bernier, 2-6. At No. 2
Ana Sofia Montero Villegas (Caracas, Venezuela/Colegio San Martin de Porres) and Emma Lootens-stael were bested by Carlotta Mencaglia and Hanna Telzynska, 3-6. No. 3 pairing of
Jenna Kastell (Bonn, Germany/TC Rot-Weiß Troisdorf) and
Manon Baudet (Lyon, France/TC Trevoux) would also drop their match 2-6 to the Miners Wendy Zhang and DeCora Antoine.
As for singles, playing No. 1 today was
Caini Wang (New Taipei City, Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) as she was taken down in two sets by Carlotta Mencaglia 6-1 and 6-1. Penciled in at No. 2 was
Andreea Arnautu (Laval, Quebec, Canada/College Laval), before falling to the racket of Candice Bernier 0-6 and 4-6.
Gabriella Blumberg (Casper, WY/Kelly Walsh High School) played No. 3 for the Mustangs today, as she was unable to find her groove before losing 2-6 and 0-6 to Paloma Hennicaux. Emma Lootens-stael was slotted for No. 4 today, taking Zuzanna Szczepankska to three sets before winning the match 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. No. 5
Manon Baudet (Lyon, France/TC Trevoux) rounded out today's lineup, going down to DeCora Antoine 2-6 and 4-6.
Jenna Kastell (Bonn, Germany/TC Rot-Weiß Troisdorf) split her set but lost 0-6, won 6-4 and then lost 4-10 to Wendy Zhang.

The Mustangs will travel to the University of New Mexico on February 1, 2025, to play their next Exhibition game (10 a.m. MT).
