Mustangs Clinch LSC Match Play

THACKERVILLE, Okla. - The Western New Mexico University Men's Golf Team was able to clinch match play on Tuesday morning with a Top Four finish ath the Lone Star Conference Championships. After three rounds of play the Mustangs finished fourth at (+4), 291-289-288-868. This sets the Mustangs up to play Dallas Baptist tomorrow morning.

"Very proud of the toughness and grit shown by our boys to advance to the match play stage," said Head Coach Kent Beatty. "They coupled their talent with a lot of fight today and got it done down the stretch. We'll be ready for a tough match against DBU tomorrow morning".

Adam Niles (Kamloops, BC/Valley View Secondary HS) lead the way for the Mustangs with an outstanding eagle on the 13th hole to earn him T-4th. Niles card read (-4), 771-73-68-212 with an eagle and 13 birdies. He was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Joey Geary (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope HS) is T-15th at (+2), 74-71-73-218. Geary holed in 10 birdies. 

T-23rd is Tomas Ribeiro (Porto Seguro, BR/Evolução Centro HS) and Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keyes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS) at (+5). Ribeiro managed a 77-71-73-221 and 11 birdies, while Arkanath shot 72-74-75-221 with seven birdies. Freshman Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) finished in 46th at (+11), 74-79-74-227. Kaesebier sunk eight birdies. 

Dallas Baptist took first at (-13). Second place is Midwestern State, shooting a (+1). Oklahoma Chrisitain is third at (+2).

Individually, Leandro Mihaich of OCU is in first at (-9). Sam Jenkins of DBU has second at (-7). Rudy Sautron of Cameron sits third at (-6).
