TUCSON, AZ- Mustangs returned to the University of Arizona this morning at Drachman Stadium where they participated in the Willie Williams Invite.
The Invite is split into a 2-day competition where half of the WNMU team competed today while the other half travels tomorrow morning. Women's Javelin team kicked off for the Mustangs as LSC watchlist athlete, Kiana Ortiz, had a solid mark of 39.50m and set a new WNMU record. Also setting a school record for the women was Victoria Baca, who threw an incredible 10.57m distance in shot-put to finish in the top 20 in the field.
Starting off for the men was George Peru (Silver City, NM/Cobre HS) in Javelin. He set a new school record for the Mustangs as well with his mark of 50.22m. Elias Perez (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) placed himself in the top 25 today as he came across the line at 4:03.13min in the 1500m. Earning a top 10 finish in 5000m race was Jarred Baca (Las Vegas/West Las Vegas High School) (14:53.39min) and Aaron Perez (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) (15:00.49), who came across back-to-back in their heats.
Every Mustang athlete earned a season best today.
