TUCSON, AZ- Mustangs traveled to the University of Arizona this morning to open their 2024 outdoor track season at Drachman Stadium.
33 Mustang athletes competed in both Track and Field events throughout the day. On the women's side, some outstanding performances came from the distance team including Isabella Medina's top 10 800m finish at 2:29.37 min. Aubrey Lozoya was this week's overall female performer as she came through the line in the 3000m at 11:02.34 min. and placed 4th in the field. Kiana Ortiz, who was on the Lone Star Conference watchlist, was this week's top female thrower, as she finished with a mark of 37.78m in Javelin.
On the men's side, Tristan Pierce (Raton, NM/Maxwell HS) finished with the top 800m time, cracking the 2min mark at 1:59.44 min. A 4 year old school record in the 3000m run was broken today by newcomer Jarred Baca, crossing the finish at 8:37.51 min. The previous time was held by Michael Anzures at 8:39.4 min. in the spring of 2020.
After the meet had finished, Coach Macario Campos stated "today was a good meet, a great opener for the team. We have events now that have established some marks for the season."
