Wichita Falls, TX – Monday was the start of the Midwestern State Invitational for the Western New Mexico University Men's Golf team. Playing the first two rounds today at Wichita Falls Country Club, the Mustangs finished day one T13th.
The first round put WNMU in a hole, finishing in 18th, as they shot 299. The second round was much better for the Mustangs, finishing 13 strokes better and currently sit 13th.
Adam Niles (Kamloops, BC/Valley View Secondary) and Joey Geary (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope HS) led the Mustangs all day. Both Mustangs finished T26th shooting 142 (E) on the day. Geary went 72-70 and Niles 73-69 in their 36-holes.
Freshman, Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keyes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS) had a tough first round but would finish strong in round two finishing T78 and is (+9). Arkanath shot 79-72-151. Adam Samnegard is a stroke behind carding 75-77-152 and is T82.
Roman Romero (Albuquerque, NM/Manzano HS) didn't have his best in round one, shooting 82, but would find his stroke in the second round, finishing with a 75. Romero is T101. Aaron Perales (Deming, NM/Deming HS) played as an individual, carding 73-75-148. He is T60th and is (+6).
The Mustangs are leading the pack with eagles as Niles and Romero both eagled on hole 5.
Midwestern State's Jake Doggett is leading field carding 65-68-133 good enough for (-9). In second is Hutchinson CC's Harry Crockett, who moved up 10 positions after a great second round. Crockett shot 70-67-177 (-5). There are four people T3 who are all (-4).
Midwestern state is in first (-9), Hutchinson CC and Colorado Christian are T2 ase they are (-2).
The Mustangs will continue their tournament at the Midwestern State Invitational held at Wichita Falls Country Club for the final round.
