Albuquerque -- Albuquerque's Roman Romero is returning to his birthplace to take on the challenges of collegiate golf this Fall as the 6-1 bomber signed a National Letter of Intent Tuesday to join the Mustangs. The 19-year-old was born in Silver City when his dad was a basketball coach for the Mustangs. Roman has become one of the best players in the State over the past two season and features a game that has both power and feel, being named All-City, All-District and All State for the class AAAA Manzano Monarchs.
Ironically, Romero's dad Dominick started the men's and women's golf teams at Western when he was a graduate assistant here, leading the men's team to its first NCAA Regional appearance in 1997.
"I'm thrilled to have Roman join us as a Mustang. He's a fantastic athlete and I look forward to having him working full time on his golf game. He's long and he's coachable ... a great formula to be a great player for us," said WNMU Head Coach
Kent Beatty.
