Mustangs Fall Short in Finals Concluding Fall Season

San Angelo, TX- Western New Mexico University's Women's Tennis Team made the trip to Angelo State University's Tennis Complex, playing in the Angelo State Women's Singles Invitational. 

7 total Lone Star Conference teams were in attendance; host Angelo State, Cameron, UT-Permian Basin, Dallas Baptist, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT-Tyler, and WNMU.

"The quality of play this weekend was incredible. We earned several great wins and had fought in our losses" said Head Coach Alex Hunt.

Individually, Mustang Nicold Gonzalez (Bogota, Colombia/) went undefeated Friday, and lost only one set. On Saturday, Gonzalez won her first (6-2,6-3) to get into her flights finals. In the finals, the Junior battled through three sets in the final round before being defeated by Chloe Dix of UT-Tyler (6-3, 1-6, 10-3).

Senior Julia Tozzi (Limeira, Brazil/) and Sophomore Kajsa Gelitschka paired up for doubles going undefeated Friday (10/16), making their flights final before being defeated by Angelo State 8-2.

Going 2-2 in singles, Tozzi had a rough day one but was able to group for today, defeating Lisa Guitton of UTPB (6-0, 6-4).

Julia Terrzas and Gonzales teamed up in doubles where they went 1-3 in the invitational. 

The Mustangs concluded their fall season Hunt says "We are feeling well prepared for the spring season."
