Diaz and Ockernahl Recieve Conference Honors

Richardson, Tex. -- The Lone Star Conference announced the recipients of the men's and women's player of the week for tennis Friday afternoon.

Freshman Joel Ockernahl (Muehlacker, Germany ) grabbed his first career honor after starting the season undefeated at the #3 singles flight, winning all three of his matches in straight sets and never letting his opponents score more than 3 points. In a tough matchup against Ottawa (AZ) Ockernahl helped to seal a 5‐4 victory, defeating Noel Maurin 6‐3, 6‐2. He followed up with the lone win against Arizona Christian, defeating Jesse Miritello 6‐1, 6‐1 and sealed the weekend's perfect record with a 6‐3, 6‐2 win over Yohann Prinsen of Mesa CC.

Junior, Karina Diaz (Laredo, TX/United) earned conference honors as well. Diaz played a huge factor in the Lady Mustangs success last weekend, as the team opened the spring season undefeated. Diaz posted a perfect 6‐0 record at #3 singles and doubles, without dropping a set. Diaz and partner Julia Terrazas (Santa Cruz, Bolivia ) played a flawless game against Ottawa Univ. (AZ) winning 8‐0, followed by a 6‐1 victory over Watt and Vladt of Arizona Christian. She completed the weekend with clean sweeps over Mesa Community College, including a 6‐0, 6‐0 victory in singles play.

Both teams are in St. George for top-regional matchups with Colorado Mesa and Metropolitan State University - Denver.
