Men's Tennis Inks Crawford for Fall 2019

Silver City, N.M -- Head Coach Eric Strugis announces the signing of New Mexico standout Jace Crawford. The Lovington, N.M native has committed to play for the Mustangs for the 2019-20 season. 

As a Wildcat playing at the top-spot, Crawford has posted a 70-14 singles record and a 58-15 doubles record dating back to 2016. A two-time District 4-5A doubles champion, and one time singles champion, Crawford has also qualified for the individual and team championship four times making it to the semi-finals in both doubles and singles. His success so far has made him the Lovington High School's all-time winningest tennis player, and 2018 Esmark Tennis All - American. 

Crawford's coach at Lovington expressed his support for Jace and his next step. "I am extremely proud of Jace taking his game to the next level. He is truly a student of the game, and a great leader for our successful Lovington High School tennis program. I look forward to watching his game grow even more under the guidance of Coach Eric Sturgis at Western New Mexico."

Jace's success continues off the court, producing a 4.36 grade point average and top-10 ranking in the his high school senior class. 

"I would like to thank Coach Sturgis for the opportunity to play at Western New Mexico University. I have always dreamed of playing tennis at the collegiate level and worked very hard toward this goal. I will work hard to make a positive impact on the Mustang tennis team while pursuing a degree at WNMU. Let's go MUSTANGS!" said Jace 

"I am very happy to welcome Jace Crawford to the Mustang family. His high school tennis record is extremely impressive and having another local player with his experience is exactly what we need." said Coach Sturgis. 

The Mustang Men's tennis team kicks off their season today at 1 p.m. as they host a scrimmage with Mesa Community College.
