SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Redshirt junior Tristan Da Lio (Casablanca/Academie des Hauts de Nimes) and junior Vladimir Gnilozubov (Kazakhstan, Astana/Kazakhstan) had little trouble in their opening match winning in straight sets to open the Oracle Cup Thursday.
The Mustang duo rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 win over the pair from Queens College out of New York in Laga and Nawghre. The teams play a best of three sets in both singles and doubles at the Oracle Cup.
The fourth-seed WNMU pair will face the Azusa Pacific duo of Frank and Engel in the next round as they upset top-seed Casares-Casas and Porteset from Armstrong Atlantic, 6-3, 7-6. That match will take place at 1 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday afternoon.
With a win, WNMU will turn around and play again at 5:30 p.m. on Friday to try and win the Division II title and advance to the final two rounds of the Oracle Cup against remaining teams from the other classifications.
