Men's Tennis Remains Second in NCAA South Central Region

INDIANAPOLIS – As they prepare for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament, the Western New Mexico University men's tennis team remained in second in the NCAA South Central Region rankings that were released for the third time on Wednesday.

The Mustangs, already owners of their sixth straight RMAC regular season title, will try to make it six straight RMAC Tournament titles this weekend in Pueblo with an overall record of 8-5 in countable games and 8-4 in-region. Midwestern State out of the Lone Star Conference remains in the top slot. The other teams remained in the same spots with St. Edward's (Heartland) in third, Cameron (Lone Star) in fourth, St. Mary's (Heartland) in fifth, Colorado Mesa (RMAC) in sixth and Newman (Heartland) in seventh.

The top five teams will receive bids into the NCAA Preliminary Rounds/South Central Regional that will take place May 2-5. Automatic bids out of the region include the RMAC and Heartland Conferences. The top seed hosts the four/five seed, as those teams play each other and then the winner faces the top seed, while the second seed hosts the third seed. The winner of the two matches will advance to the NCAA Tournament May 13-16 in Surprise, Ariz.The field will be announced this coming Tuesday with the NCAA selection shows beginning with the women's at 6 p.m. and the mens at 6:30 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. 

WNMU opens the RMAC Tournament this Friday in Pueblo and will enter as the top seed receiving a bye into the second round.
