Metz Repeats as Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar

NORMAN, Okla. – Senior David Metz (Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro HS) added another academic honor to his mantle of accomplishments this year after collecting Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar award for the second straight year by the Golf Coaches Association of America.


To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.


He finished with a degree this past spring in criminal justice and held a 3.46 GPA.


Metz from Tucson, Ariz., has capped his career in style being named First-Team All-RMAC both academically and as a golfer. Metz closed his last RMAC Championships winning the individual title by two-strokes with a 214 (73-67-74) as his second round 67 was the lowest he shot all season. This wasn't the only tournament title he collected as he also claimed the Cal Baptist Invitational with a 207, which was his lowest three round total of the season. He shot nine-under in that tournament and bested a field of 96. He rolled up six other top-10 finishes including a tie for fourth at the RMAC #1 with a 211, tie for seventh at the WNMU Fall Intercollegiate with a 214, sixth at the RMAC #2 with a 218, tie for third at the Bruce Williams Invitational with a 216, tie for second at the Cactus Thaw! with a two round 140 and a tie for eighth at the Bronco Invitational with a 139, which was his lowest two round total. Of the eight tournaments that he finished in the top-10, six of them he shot under-par.


His four-year Mustang career included 128 rounds played, posted a pair of low rounds under 70 (69 in 2012-13 and 67 in 2013-14) along with a stroke average of 75.42 that progressively improved each season.
