Posting two wins in doubles for one point, the Mustangs had the momentum going singles Tuesday at New Mexico State. WNMU could only get one point from
Emmanuel Mensah (Accra, Ghana, ITF Center Home, Mt. San Jacinto College) at no. 1. The Aggies walked away with the victory, 5-2.
“Our no. 2 and 3 doubles teams pulled out strong victories today, and our no. 1 team of Mensah/
Johan Weich (Landskrona, Sweden, Filbornaskolan High School, Hope International University) had a tough run with NMSU's no. 1 team of Brouleau/Stakne,” says head coach Erik Burton. “The guys played well today, despite the conditions, and NMSU has had several matches in the past week. At this level, it's tough when WNMU's last tough match at this level was back on March 26th, versus UCSD."
In singles, Mensah defeated NMSU's Arthur Surreaux in straight 6-4 sets. "Emmanuel brought his level up today, like the No. 1 player should, so it is for the rest of the lineup to follow,” continues Burton.
The Mustangs are now headed to Denver to participate in the RMAC Tournament Friday. The Mustangs are seeded no. 1 with a first round bye.
