WNMU tennis split on the final day of the regular season Thursday morning. The men defeated Montana State University – Billings, 8-1, while the women fell to the Yellowjackets, 8-1. WNMU will remain in Denver to compete in the RMAC Championships, Aprril 24-25.

For the men, the Mustangs gave up one lone point at the No. 3 doubles spot. “Our doubles today were a struggle with a good line from Billings, but we got through fairly well and the singles went really well,” says head coach Erik Burton. The men finished the regular season 11-10.

The Mustangs are seeded second and will play Colorado Christian Friday at 11:00 a.m.

For the women, it was a tight match as four of the six singles went three sets. The Mustangs posted a “W” in the first set at No. 1 and 2 singles before the Yellowjackets came back to win both. In doubles, Emily Lampman (Kerrville, TX, Tivy High School) and Stephanie Shelton (Douglas, AZ, Douglas High School) did well at No. 1 but had some trouble closing and fell, 9-8.

The Mustangs are seeded fifth and will play Metro State on Friday at 8:00 a.m.
