Mustangs Settle for Second

Junior Scott Crichton
The University of Colorado – Colorado Springs survived a shaky finish to get a one-shot victory over Western Mexico Tuesday in the final round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Men's Golf Championship in Buckeye, Arizona. The Mustangs trailed Springs by four shots after the first day's 36-hole marathon and posted 295 to UCCS' 295 Tuesday, but it was not enough to steal the trophy from the regular season champs.

Springs' Tyler Bishop won in playoffs over Regis' Greg Johnson for the RMAC individual, each posting two-over-par scores of 218. Upper Iowa's Adam Winans was the tournament champions shooting rounds of 70-70-76--216 (even par).

Regis was third in the Championship at 915, 15 shots off UCCS and 14 off WNMU.

WNMU's Scott Crichton (Dalgety Bay, Scotland, Inverkeithing High School) was the top Mustang, finishing fifth at 221 (75-73-73). Joon Lee (Seoul, South Korea, Guildford Park Secondary) and Gordon Webb (Malta, MT, Malta High School) bot got another top-10 with 225 (74-78-73) and 226 (79-74-73) respectively. Rounding out the Mustang scoring was Eric Chavez (Las Cruces, NM, Mayfield High School, New Mexico State University) (12th-229) and Steven Maxwell (Glasgow, Scotland, Bearsden Academy) (T49-246).

The RMAC Championship is the final regular season event of the year before the Mustangs head to Lincoln, Nebraska for the NCAA Central Regional.
