SILVER CITY, NM -
Connor Ackerley (Tempe, Arizona/Corona Del Sol High School), Quarterback, Western New Mexico, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the game against New Mexico Highlands.
During this period, Ackerley delivered a significant performance against New Mexico Highlands. He tied a Lone Star Conference record and set a school record by throwing seven touchdown passes. The Western New Mexico freshman quarterback completed 34 of 57 passes for a total of 529 yards, with just one interception. Ackerley threw at least one touchdown pass in each quarter and connected with seven different receivers. His seven touchdown passes are the highest by any player across all NCAA divisions this season, a feat last matched in the conference by LSC Hall of Honor member Dustin Vaughan in 2013. Ackerley's contributions were crucial in helping his team recover from a 35-7 deficit to tie the game at 55-55 in the fourth quarter. He also added 23 rushing yards to his performance.
"Connor is playing at a very high level right now and I'm proud of the progress he has made over the last year," said Head Coach,
Billy Hickman. "He is seeing everything very well, making good decisions, and giving us a chance to be very successful on offense."
The Mustangs will play against West Texas A&M for a 6:00 pm kickoff at Ben Altamirano Field, in Silver City, NM.
