Ruidoso, N.M. — The Western New Mexico Women's Golf team began the Poss High Country Shootout in Ruidoso, NM with an impressive opening round 302 (+18) which places them in third after day one.

Falyn Lackey (Hobbs, NM/Hobbs HS) continued her excellent play after last week's t-6th finish and opened up with a 69 (-2) which places her in the lead. Lackey had 6 birdies on the day and looks to continue her fine form into the final round. Alexandria Klemke (Goodyear, AZ/Estrella Foothills HS) followed with an impressive score of 73 (+2) which currently has her in a tie for 6th.

Two Mustangs, Corynn Speer (Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo, HS) and Nicole Jasso (Deming, NM/Deming HS), are currently in a tie for 22nd after an opening round 80 (+9). Erin Turner (Deming, NM/Deming HS) finished the day with an 86 (+15) which has her in t-37th.

Rounding out the lineup for the Mustangs as an individual was Kelly Peden (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS), who shot a score of 82 (+11) and finished the day in a tie for 28th.

The Mustangs look to maintain their fine play and move up the leaderboard for the second round as play continues at 8:30am MT in Ruidoso.
