PUEBLO, COLO. - The Western New Mexico women's golf team opened play at the Southern Colorado Open in Pueblo, Colorado, finishing round one in 6th place with a team total of 307 (+19). Steady efforts across the lineup kept the Mustangs in the hunt heading into the final round.
Shandiin Harper (Farmington, NM/Piedra Vista HS) led the way with a solid 74 (+2), good enough to tie for 8th. She stayed composed through both nines, giving the team a dependable anchor score.
Alexandria Klemke (Goodyear, AZ/Estrella Foothills HS) followed with a 75 (+3), tying for 15th. Despite a few bumps on the back nine, her strong front side kept her in the mix.
Corynn Speer (Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo, HS) carded a 76 (+4) and sits tied for 20th. Her round was steady and helped keep WNMU in striking distance.
Falyn Lackey (Hobbs, NM/Hobbs HS) posted an 82 (+10), and
Erin Turner (Deming, NM/Deming HS) rounded out the team scoring with an 85 (+13). Both players battled through tough conditions and showed grit down the stretch.
Playing as an individual,
Kelly Peden (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) shot 84 (+12).
The Mustangs will be back on the course for the final round today, Monday, March 24, 2025, with tee times starting at 10 a.m. MT.
