Mustangs Stand Tall at Home and Sweep the Falcons

Silver City, N.M. – The Mustangs continue their 2025 season taking on the UTPB Falcons at home. In the first game, the Mustangs routed the Falcons 9-1, to finish the game in the sixth inning due to a walk-off, home-base steal by Antonya Lucero (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva High School). The second game followed a similar pattern with the Mustangs securing the sweep, after a stellar performance, with a 7-5 win.

Game One: Western New Mexico vs. University of Texas-Permian Basin 9-1
Starting on the mound for the Mustangs, the dynamo-deliverer of the day, Labraida Tenorio.  Tenorio pitched the entirety of the game, faced 20 batters, threw 65 pitches, had two strikeouts and only let up 3 hits.

Offensively, the Mustangs had a total of 23 at-bats, 3 home-runs, 4 doubles, and 8 stolen bases! The Mustangs held nothing back at the plate, taking out the Falcons by inning six due to the 8-run rule.

Game Two: Western New Mexico vs. University of Texas-Permian Basin 7-5
Starting on the mound for the Mustangs in game two, Haiven Schoolcraft (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad High School) pitched three innings. She faced 12 batters, threw 63 pitches, and had 2 strikeouts. Madison Kloepper (Llano, TX/Llano High School) would relieve her for the remaining three innings, facing 13 batters, throwing 42 pitches and coming away with 3 strikeouts.

Offensively, the Mustangs had a total of 27 at-bats. They had 10 hits as a team, 2 home-runs, 1 DBL, and 1 SB. The Mustangs showed just how dominating they can be today, taking the sweep 7-5 in game two!

The Mustangs will be home for their next doubleheader against Sul Ross State University this Sunday, March 23rd, 2025. The first pitches are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. MT.
